I’ve been slacking; I know.  Here’s what happened in my life this past month:

I think North Texas had record cold weather again.  We had 4 days of ice and snow, which closed just about everything.  We live close to the Fort Worth Stock Show, and had slight cabin fever, so we decided to take a little walk.  Have you ever seen a cow shiver?  I finally had the courage to get to work (plus I had to use two sick days because I think my school was the only business open), and Matt so kindly scrapped my windows for me, I was able to drive down our street and onto the icy highways.

We celebrated our third wedding anniversary with dinner at Ferre and then went to see Momma Mia at Bass Performance Hall. We also went to Whole Foods for a mini version of their delicious Berry Chantilly Cake we had at our wedding.

North Texas was host to Super Bowl XLV.  We drove by the stadium in Arlington to check out the festivities.  Saw the workers clearing all the ice/snow off the roof, and even drove by the Wal-mart that closed for Super Bowl Sunday.  Sundance Square was headquarters to ESPN’s Super Bowl coverage, so we were tourists is our own town.

I went to Southern California over Presidents’ Day weekend to visit my friend Stephanie.  We went to the planetarium at the Griffith Observatory, had lunch at The Getty, went to the Santa Monica Pier, saw the world’s smallest dog on the Third Street Promenade, and I got my tragus pierced.

I had a busy, but fun month.  Can’t wait to see what happens in the spring!

2010 is a thing of the past, and 2011 is in full swing.  We celebrated the New Year with a trip to Oklahoma City.  I was actually surprised at how interesting this city is, and I would like to go back for a longer visit, if you can believe it.  We went to the Flaming Lips New Year’s FREAKOUT 2011. It was amazing!  They put on a great show, and as Wayne Coyne said many times, they very much love and appreciate their fans!  My favorites played by the band were “She Don’t Use Jelly,” “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” and “Do You Realize??”  The Soft Bulletin was played, in its entirety, just after midnight.

Our vacation to Hawaii with my parents was fun…can’t complain about a  free vacation, right?  Here are some highlights:

Matsumoto Shave Ice. If you know me, then you know that look on my face is genuine excitement.  It was absolutely delicious!

My dad has been wanting a tattoo for awhile, but is still not certain that he wants something that is permanent.  On his trip he got to test the waters with a henna tattoo.

Matt and I hiked to the top of Diamond Head and saw some spectacular views of Oahu.

We went to a farmer’s market in Lihue.  I felt like I was in the Philippines because of all the people speaking Tagalog.  We bought fresh vegetables and other goodies.  My dad made soup with the vegetables from the market that lasted a few days…a great way to eat healthy and save money on vacation!

We drove up into the mountains.  This is the Kalalau Valley. I also have some pictures of the Valley from the ocean.

It was a relaxing trip which made it hard to return to work.  This was only about a month and a half ago, but I feel like I need another vacation…who’s with me?!?  You can view the rest of my photos here.

Labor Day Weekend September 10, 2009

We headed south to the San Antonio area for Labor Day Weekend.  It was a fun adventure.  We met our families, all eight people, in San Marcos for some lunch at Grin’s.  It was so nice to be back there.  (Matt and I both went to Texas State, so we have a soft spot in our hearts for that little town).  It was the football home opener, so the town was a-buzz with alumni and current students getting ready for the game.  We also had a quick drive around campus.  Butler, the dorm where we used to live (yes, we both lived in the same dorm, but at separate times) has this great new green space in the front.  It would have been so nice to have back in the day!

Then we headed down the road for a fiesta at La Casa de Ramirez.  It’s always so much fun getting together with them.  They make us feel like family, good food is always available, and the sounds of mariachi resonate throughout the house.  The party was for Andy and Lindsay.  They were married in Aruba in July and not too many family members were able to make it, so it was a reception to celebrate with family…and a celebration it was.

A group of us went tubing down the Comal the next day.  The weather was perfect, and though the river was crowded, it wasn’t too bad.  We had a relaxing 2 hour float, then headed home for a BBQ with the Balzers.  We have such a good time with them.  We took off around 11.30 Monday morning and made it home by 5.  We took 281 because we thought that 35 would be back up.  I like driving through the small towns; it feels more like Texas should be.

I went to Colorado last weekend to celebrate my Grandma’s 81st birthday.  It was a short trip, and I ate way too much, but I’m glad that I got to see my family.  I don’t get to see them too often, but I just have so much fun when we all get together.  Here are a few pictures of that weekend:

My cousins Christy and Cindy, and Cindy’s daughter Lauren.  I always have a blast with them:

My Uncle took us to the Westcliffe/Rosita area.  We climbed up the hill, and this is a view overlooking some of his property:
